I'm not alone pathetic!!
Woohoo...there are others out there like me who continually wimp out about trying to stay spoiler free. I guess I'm in good company then.

A handful of people have nudged me to be more specific about the evidence that I referred to a few posts back regarding some BSG season 3.5 spoilers, so I'll go ahead and spell out the case more clearly.


Disclaimer: I am making assumptions about what the finished picture may look like even though 90% of the puzzle pieces are still missing. ANYTHING could still happen. I will also note that almost NONE of this information comes to me firsthand from directly involved sources. These are bits and pieces that I've come across from a myriad of sources, and everything reported below has been reported in multiple locations, however unless it is otherwise noted everything that follows should be considered "unconfirmed".

The fact is that each little bit of information on its own reveals VERY little, but when you bring all the pieces together the preponderance of evidence appears to indicate that...(deep breath)... Kara will die and/or be revealed as a Cylon in season 3.5.





The Evidence...

1. Tahmoh stated that Helo "loses" someone close to him in season 3.5. - confirmed
2. A "top 7" death occurs in season 3.5 - confirmed.
3. The top 7 consists of Adama, Lee, Starbuck, Roslin, Sharon, Baltar, and Six. - duh, no need to confirm
4. The Subject2Discussion radio show reported that the actor who plays the character who dies has been a guest on their show. (can not comfirm if they are right, but they've been pretty reliable in the past)
5. Katee Sackhoff is the only top 7 actor to appear on the S2D radio show. (A handful of other BSG cast members have guested on the show, but no others in the top 7)
6. The Cylons believe Kara has a "special" destiny, and this destiny is going to be revealed in season 3.5. - confirmed
7. Tricia Helfer has reported that another Cylon model will be revealed in season 3.5.
8. Jamie Bamber has stated that Lee's situation with Kara is finally resolved, and Lee is reported to be reconciling his marriage with Dee in episode in 3.12.
9. Though Kara remains "separated" from Anders, they will continue having "no strings attached" sex up through 3.16, which at least rules out a continuing relationship with Lee.
10. Ron Moore has reported that Anders will have his own independent storyline totally seperate from Kara after 3.16. confirmed
11. The big death is rumored to occur in episode 3.16 - "Maelstrom".
12. "Maelstrom" is a Kara-centric episode - confirmed
13. The story revolves around Kara being stranded in space and in critical danger. confirmed
14. Low on oxygen, she has hallucinatory dreams which include memories of her mother... and Leoben also appears in these "memories".
15. In her dreams, Kara's mother tells her she is 'special'.
16. Kara is reported to be in a final "endgame" kind of situation and the Leoben image is the one who pushes her to make a final choice.
17. Katee has been reported as recently saying that Leoben is the only person who really understands Kara and he's the only one she can really connect with and be herself with.
18. The characters reported to be in front of the cameras for one specific day of filming for the season finale (3.18) included Adama, Lee, Laura, Sharon-Athena, Helo, Tigh, Tyrol, Cally, Gaeta, Anders, Doc Cottle, Racetrack and Seelix.
19. The "roundtable' podcast positively confirms that Adama, Laura, Lee, and Baltar are alive and appear in the season finale.
20. By process of elimination, the only top 7 characters who remain unconfirmed for the season finale are Starbuck and #6.
21. It has been reported that Katee finished filming for the season some time in November, but filming for the finale is expected to remain underway until mid-December.
22. KR (who has a pretty good track record for reliable spoilers) has also reported that Kara will die, and her departure will be permanent.

It should now also be noted that Katee is reported to have told one attendee at a recent convention that Kara doesn't die and that she alone amongst the cast has been told that she isn't a Cylon while everyone else remains fair game. (Her exact words can not be confirmed.) This could very reasonably be viewed to render all suspicions about Kara null and void. However, Kara is actually the ONLY character among the humans in the central cast who has not already been proven in canon not to be a Cylon, so her statement (as reported) is rather contradictory to established facts. It should also be considered that NO ONE in the cast would DARE to stand up at a convention at this time and reveal to the crowd who dies or who is a Cylon. The proverbial doody would hit a very humungous fan!! So in spite of the convention report, and because of the preponderance of growing evidence, I consider the case implicating Kara to still be open.




**Update - Dec 29 '06** - A reader of Ask Ausiello (at TVGuide.com) recently asked Ausiello if a rumor was true that Katee's name is being removed from the opening credits of BSG for the final 3 episodes. Ausiello himself had not heard this particular rumor (and I hadn't either), so he floated it by his inside source, who simply questioned the likelihood that anyone has seen the credits for episodes that won't air until March. That is in no way a confirmation that Katee is being removed from the credits, but it's NOT a denial either. Essentially it's another way of saying, "No comment." Interpret as you will.

Well I really don't think that Sharon or Helo die since it obvious that their plot line is too important to the overall storyline.

It might be Kara, since at the same convention where Tahmoh said tyhat Helo looses someone close to him, he pretty much came out and said it wasn't Sharon,

One of the unconfirmed spoilers I listed above reports both Sharon-Athena and Helo as appearing in the season finale, which is supposedly after the major death occurs, so for now I'm ruling them both out. Can't rule out a death for Sharon-Boomer though, and Hera's status remains unknown although she wouldn't qualify for the "top 7" death.

However, I don't think we can rest easy that Sharon and Helo are safe just because of how "important" they are. Starbuck has always been just as important, and is arguably even more important than either of them. IMO, none of the top 7 are expendable, and only RDM knows why someone has been targetted. It must be part of the greater plan somehow, which ultimately is more important than any individual character.

And I was in attendance at the convention where Tahmoh revealed Helo's upcoming "loss" and I disagree that he ever ruled out Sharon. He said they'd have some tough times along with some loving times, but he never implied how things would turn out for them by season end.

When at a convention (After he said that Helo looses someone close to him), after Tahmoh was asked flat out if it was Sharon, he basiaclly came flat out and said it wasn't. There were two people from HE at the convention

Besides with out Sharon and Helo, BSG becomes just another shoot um up SciFi show, They are the ones that put a human face on the Cylons and intergect the whole love theme into the show. Yea I know we have the whole Kara/Lee thing but thats totally different then Sharon and Helo.

Plus a lot of the edgyness come from their relationship, look at all the controversey that BSG likes to brag about and how much of it comes from these two characters. Plus the whole Hera thing (and the statemenst from RM about waiting until the end of teh series to really show why she is so important). You need Sharon and Helo to make Hera important, with out them she is just another baby.

And Helo and Sharon are far from the only thing keeping BSG from being a cliched shoot 'em up scifi show. They are only one part of a very large equation. And Sharon might have put the first human face on the Cylons, but they've all achieved that status now. But since Helo and Sharon have both already been ruled out from the hit list, just relax and take breather Bob. They are both safe for now.

I think at this point with all the Katiee Sakoff rumors flying around, I think it would be surprising if its not Katiee. I don't think she either dies (or if she does, its a plot ploy) or leaves the show. But I do think they are going to throw a fast one with the Kara character.

Katee has now gone so far as to say that she doesn't appear in the final three episodes of the season, but because she has signed a confidentiality agreement she can't specify why. So, something happens in 3.16 that drops Kara out of the show for at least the remainder of the season. That HAS to make Starbuck the "loss" among the top 7 characrters that RDM has referred to. The only question remaining is what exactly he means by "loss".

I just think Kara is way to popular to write off the show and Katiee is under a 5 year contact with an option for a 6th year. I do them pulling something with her character to change the complexion of things, what I have no idea.

Maybe she is oen of the final five, maybe she switches sides, maybe she just comes back in season IV, your guess is as good as mine.

Maybe with Katiee on the sidelines for three episodes we will see more of Sharon (that would be nice)

Well I am off to Orlando for two days of meetings and a day at the Shooting and Outdoor Trades Show.

As far as Hera is concerned, if they killed the baby, especially at this point. I don't think anybody would watch the show anymore. RM is not that nuts.

Everyone in the "top 7" has five-year contracts, but unless it's all a smokescreen then somebody with a five-year contract is leaving.

As is always the case, such contracts are intended to prevent the actors from ditching at their own whim and leaving the production high and dry, not to prevent the producers from exercising creative control. There are always clauses in the contracts that allow producers to cut cast members as necessary...otherwise Laura Flynn Boyle wouldn't have been infamously blown off a casino roof into a shoe store.

At this point, I'm still wavering between believing "she's dead" and "she's one of the 5 Cylons". We'll just have to wait and see.

Well you know my theory on this one, but another factor you may not have heard is that Katee mentioned at the con that she was auditioning for a movie, which I found interesting, as surely that would clash with filming in spring.


S2D also confirmed at some point it was not Lee or Laura.

No, I hadn't heard about Katee's audition. I wish her the best with it (as long as it isn't 'White Noise 3'), but you're right that it would have to go into production pretty soon to avoid a conflict with filming for season 4. There is a window of opportunity though, especially if she has a smaller role. On the other hand...the fact that Katee is looking for other work could be also be viewed as a bad sign for Starbuck.
